    • RE: Everytime I log in, Server crashes!

      Hello!

Sorry for the slow reply, I’ve been pretty busy lately… It sounds like you have unfortunately ended up in a corrupt chunk. :( The only known solution at the moment is for me to reset your playerdata so you’re back at spawn, so I’ve done that.

When you join again, your client and/or the server may still crash one last time due to the special chunk and player position caching found in CraftMine’s Rapido performance enhancer. The cache will be cleared after that last crash and you should be able to join fine.

If you have any further problems don’t hesitate to let me know. Just expect slow replies atm :/

      Regards,

    • RE: question ?

@Monsterjj15 There is a guide to getting the best performance possible on CraftMine, but not Steve’s Adventure pack.

However, you can use the following points/tips in the CraftMine guide for any modpack:

      • “Get the latest 64bit Java”
      • “Upgrade your graphics card or integrated graphics unit”
      • “And finally… upgrade your CPU (desktops only)”

Please note that those points above are not settings-related, but general things you can do which will improve the performance of all games without needing to change settings.

For better performance in Steve’s Adventure Pack solely by changing settings, go to Esc -> Options -> Video settings and set Render distance to anything below 8. The lower the number, the less distance you can see but the faster the game will run. However, just changing settings won’t make as much difference as doing the points above too! ;)

ok thanks, and how would i play with my friend that is a few blocks away?

Rent a server from a Minecraft host with at least 2GB of RAM for most modpacks to be able to run on it (with the exception of some extremely lightweight packs, like CraftMine and maybe even Tekkit Lite). It 'aint cheap though… :/

If you have a really low ping time (below 50ms) and an upload speed above 3Mb/sec, you can make the /publish command work outside your home’s network reliably without too much lag by opening all ports on your router. This isn’t an easy process though, but at least it’s free. You can check your ping time here and your internet upload speed here. If you don’t meet the requirements I said above, it may still work but could be very stuttery and laggy with rubber banding occurring.

Alternatively, just play on the official server that’s built-in on the multiplayer list of Steve’s Adventure Pack. That would be the easiest way and wouldn’t cost you anything.

And another question, do you know how i would make my lan servers work?

Type /publish in-game to open your single player world to a random port on your LAN (local area network). Anyone on the same Wi-Fi or wired network connection as you will be able to join your world using the local IP and port provided after you typed the publish command.

Opening to LAN does not mean your single player world is suddenly playable worldwide, or anywhere outside the network connection or router you’re currently connected to.

    • How to reduce lag and improve FPS in CraftMine (in-depth)

Nobody likes lag - that’s why I’m going to show you how to stop it, or at least reduce it! :)

      Knowing the causes of lag

It’s important to know what is the cause of your lag, as there could be various factors that determine the game’s performance. Knowing the cause will make it easier to fix it.

      The main causes are:

      • Outdated Java version
      • Incorrect Java architecture (e.g. using 32bit Java on a 64bit computer)
      • The video settings are too high for your computer to handle
      • Slow/old graphics card or using Intel integrated graphics (such as Intel HD graphics)
      • Slow CPU

      .
The following claims that also affect performance are incorrect/invalid:

      • Slow or small amounts of RAM (the speed of your RAM does not make your game any faster, as many independant studies have shown - even 1600Mhz RAM is more than fast enough for the best consumer grade CPUs out there. However, faster RAM will make a small difference if you’re using integrated graphics such as Intel HD or an AMD APU. The amount of RAM installed on your PC does not improve performance either - you likely won’t notice any performance improvement at all when comparing 4GB with 64GB.)
      • Storage speed (having a faster hard drive RPM speed or an SSD makes absolutely no difference to your FPS. It only speeds up load times when launching the game. Once the game’s loaded, it’s stored in the RAM and therefore the hard drive/SSD is unused whilst the game is launched)

      Get the latest 64bit Java

If your PC was made after 2007, it supports 64bit. Obviously, if you put 32bit Java on it, it can’t make use of the full potential of your computer and as a result, you will get significantly worse performance and you won’t be able to allocate more than 1GB of RAM to Java games and apps, even if your PC has more than 1GB of RAM free/available.

Also, if you are using an outdated Java version, you won’t be able to make use of the latest optimisations and performance improvements in the latest Java.

Here’s how you get the latest 64bit Java:

      1. First, uninstall ALL versions of Java currently on your computer, so that they won’t conflict when you put the newer Java version on later.
      2. Restart your computer once you have removed and uninstalled all versions to make sure they fully uninstall
      3. Go to this page and download and install “Windows Offline (64-bit)”. That link will give you the latest 64bit version of Java.

      And that’s it! :)

      Get your settings right

If you have a computer that can’t handle the default settings in a game or you turn up the settings higher than your computer can handle, you will lag. Manually changing advanced video settings in CraftMine is generally a bad idea if you don’t know in-depth what each setting does, as lots have different effects and some are specifically set as they are to help prevent graphical glitches.

First, and the easiest way to help improve performance in-game is by typing /profile load Fast ingame. This’ll load the fast preset, which’ll improve performance at the cost of slightly worse visuals. To reset all video settings to their defaults, type /profile load Defaults .

Get the edition of CraftMine tailored to your computer

If you’re still lagging, try switching to the “Light” edition of CraftMine. This edition is the same as normal CraftMine, and all editions of CM are cross-compatible. The Light edition is especially designed for slower or older PCs, or non-gaming laptops/tablets. Just switching to the Light edition alone will significantly improve performance.

If even after switching to the Light edition of CM you’re still lagging, you can try typing /profile load Fastest whilst ingame on the light edition to squeeze out the maximum performance possible. This is the fastest the game can possibly run whilst still being cross-compatible with other editions.

Upgrade your graphics card or integrated graphics unit

First, I’ll talk about how to upgrade a graphics card. Then I’ll talk about integrated graphics.

      Discrete Graphics card

An outdated graphics card such as an Nvidia GT or ATI card will significantly bottleneck performance, no matter how good everything else in your computer is. The same goes for budget/slow graphics cards.

Upgrading your graphics card will help a lot, but that doesn’t mean you have to splash out and spend a fortune on an upgrade. An AMD Radeon R7 370 or Nvidia GTX 750 will suffice if you’ve got a tight budget, but if you’re willing to spend more, do. The more you spend, the better the graphics card you’ll get. It doesn’t really matter too much if you go with either Nvidia or AMD as they’re both decent, but from experience I tend to find AMD is better value for money.

Currently I have a Sapphire Nitro AMD R9 280X GPU and it’s fantastic, easily getting around 70-80fps on default settings in CM standard edition with my CPU being the bottleneck (I need to upgrade my CPU or get a better cooler, as I’m certain when I do that my FPS will be higher with the same graphics card).

      Integrated graphics unit

If you have an Intel HD or Intel Iris you can’t really upgrade it as it’s part of the CPU. I would recommend getting an AMD A8 or AMD A10 APU if possible if you have a laptop that you game on and aren’t pleased with the performance. AMD APUs tend to be slightly slower than an equivalent Intel CPU, but AMD’s integrated graphics performance is in an entirely different league and is miles ahead of Intel in the graphics department.

If you have a desktop and are currently using the built-in integrated graphics on the motherboard or CPU, buy a discrete graphics card using the instructions above and turn off the integrated one. Most integrated graphics on a desktop tend to just be for those wanting to watch videos and not much else, they’re not designed to handle games at all.

And finally… upgrade your CPU (desktops only)

Minecraft modpacks are pretty CPU intensive. Although this isn’t so much the case with CM because of the kind of special optimisations it has, it’s still fairly CPU intensive.

No matter how good everything else in your PC is, if you have a slow CPU it’ll be bottlenecking your performance. Please, don’t buy a cheap Intel Atom, Intel Celeron, Intel Pentium or Intel Core i3 processor for gaming on your desktop. Don’t bother. They’re not great value for money and they’re definately not designed for gaming. If you have a really tight budget for your processor, go with AMD. AMD may not make the fastest processors out there but I guarantee you they’re much better value for money. An AMD CPU costing you £80 would probably be the equivalent performance to an Intel CPU costing you £130.

If you’re willing to spend more on a CPU upgrade, great! A 5th or 6th generation Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 would be fantastic. If you’re an AMD guy, an AMD FX 8370 or AMD FX 9590 would be roughly around the Intel Core i5 and Intel Core i7 equivalents, respectively.

    • How do I find out crafting recipes in CraftMine?

Unlike most modpacks, CraftMine does not have NEI. NEI is not included in CraftMine because it usually looks messy in the inventory screen and is laggy, as it requires all items, blocks, etc… to be rendered every single time the inventory is opened. This can cause lag spikes on inventory opening in CM because of the amount of custom models and animated content in the pack.

Instead, CraftMine comes with a handy little mod called “CraftGuide”. It is very efficient and therefore doesn’t decrease performance at all, has its own dedicated UI so it doesn’t make your inventory screen look messy, plus it has features NEI lacks.

      • Search recipes by pressing ‘G’ whilst ingame to bring up CraftGuide then click “Set item” to search recipes. You may need to click “text search” in the results if you don’t find what you want.

      .

      • Press ‘G’ whilst hovering over an item in your inventory or container to view its crafting recipe (if any)

      @Monsterjj15 said:

so i was wondering if there was a way to bypass the “you need 2gb to play this pack” rule.

Pack authors commonly put in minimum requirements to help prevent issues, not make them. It’s likely that the pack would crash during launch, or be very laggy and/or unstable with less than the minimum requirements. You can bypass the rule but as an experienced mod, plugin and modpack developer myself, I’m not going to tell you how as you will just run into a lot of horrible issues that’ll ruin your experience that we can’t help you with - I’m talking like severe lag spikes where your game ends up freezing briefly every few seconds, terrible FPS, the pack not even fully starting up without crashing, random crashes whilst playing due to out of memory errors, etc…

Instead of trying to bypass the minimum requirements, meet them instead. It sounds like you’re using 32bit Java on a 64bit machine, which is a very common mistake for people who use a 32bit web browser and just get the “recommended” java download from the java homepage.

You can use this link to get the latest 64bit Java, regardless of what web browser you use. Make sure you uninstall all versions of Java on your PC first, and then get the latest 64bit Java with this link. You want “Windows Offline (64-bit)” for Windows, “Linux x64” for Linux. It’ll fix your problem and you’ll be able to allocate 2GB+ of memory to the pack and therefore meet the requirements.

    • RE: Help!

Okay, I’m not really aware in-depth how Steve’s Adventure Pack backend works, but I assume it’s mostly just plain Forge + Optifine, with any additional mod rendering handlers.

I’ll be needing to know the components inside your PC/Laptop/2-in-1/Convertible/Tablet/other and a log from the modpack from where you attempt to join this server and get that glitch. The modpack log will tell me if any, what errors are happening behind the scenes, whilst the computer specs will allow me to identify if you have a problematic component in your PC that could be causing issues with the modpack.

You can tell me what specs your PC has by performing the following steps on Windows 10:

      1. Open Cortana and type in “dxdiag” and hit enter
      2. On the bottom right of the window that pops up, click “Save all information…” and save it to your Desktop
      3. Open up the file DxDiag.txt that is now on your Desktop, press Ctrl + A on your keyboard to select everything, then Ctrl + C to copy the contents of the file
      4. Reply to this thread and start it with this: ```
then paste using Ctrl + P.
Finish your reply with the three ` again. This’ll format it so it’s easy for us to read.

You can provide us with a log of the modpack by doing this:

      1. Press the Windows key and R at the same time to open the Run prompt
      2. Paste this in: %AppData%\.technic\modpacks\steves-adventure-pack-20\logs and hit enter
      3. Just like before, start and end your reply with ```. Paste the contents of the latest.log file inbetween.

If you have absolutely any doubt, don’t understand or are stuck, please don’t hesitate to ask for further help in getting these two things. I’m not the best at explanation… :/

The link to your YouTube channel on your Technic Platform’s pack post takes me to a non-existant channel page and there is no mention about what your modpack’s aims are, what it offers, etc… You’re missing a proper name for your “mudpack” and have no branding for it, nor any permissions shown for redistributing any of the mods contained in your modpack.

No offense but I personally doubt you will get a free server and Solder instance from UWM or anyone for that matter in your current state. It may be a better idea for you to make some videos of an existing modpack in singleplayer when first starting out on YouTube, such as some of the packs on the UWM network. Attempting to build and maintain your own modpack on top of your own upcoming YouTube channel will be incredibly difficult without an existing fanbase or experience and knowledge in making modpacks, as people won’t be looking for you if they haven’t heard of you before - they’ll be looking for videos of packs they have heard of before, which is where you start getting views in the early days of YT.
